About Me

Here at Sensei Cooks I write about my adventures in the kitchen and sometimes in the dojo.

I have a love for cooking and want to explore all the possible facets of it. Leave no stone unturned so to speak.

I am Vegan and love all types of vegan cooking.

I love the process of cooking. Being in the moment. Sort of Zen and the Art of Cooking.

Hake Piccata

Dylan’s favourite fish dish (minus the sauce) and a real simple meal to make. We make this dish quite a lot. Recipe is adapted from Saveur April 2014, they used sole but Hake, Basa and Cod work just as well.

Ingredients: 1lb of white fish fillets (we prefer hake or Basa) 1/2 cup all purpose […]

Spicy Jicama Carpaccio

Jicama is a wonderful vegetable. Looks like a potato, tastes like an apple. I tell Dylan it is a Mexican apple. He likes it.

I tend to serve this with the Beef Tataki slices with soy sauce and wasabi and Portobello Carpaccio with Orange-Kalamata Tapenade. It is a great meal for the whole family. I […]

Portobello Carpaccio with Orange-Kalamata Tapenade

Here is one of Belle’s absolute favourites. It is a great side for meat-eaters (served with Beef Tataki slices with soy sauce and wasabi) and Spicy Jicama Carpaccio. It is also a great late night snack, much healthier then chips and dip!

Portobello Carpaccio with Orange-Kalamata Tapenade adapted from Vegetarian Times Magazine

Wontons with Chili Sauce

We love finger food in our family. Often everyone is busy working on their PC, doing homework, home school or running one way or the other. Finger food is great. You can eat it in the office with your PC or the living room with a Pink Pather DVD. Here is a fast wonton recipe […]

Quiche with Greens

Of course this is a vegan quiche and a pretty good one. The recipe calls for ‘greens’ and for this one I have used Kale. Kale is a super food, probably the healthiest vegetable on the planet.

Kale is low in calorie, high in fiber and has zero fat. Kale is high in iron. Per […]

Vegan Mac’n’Cheese

I always loved mac’n’cheese, especially when I was living on my own with very little money. It is amazing the little extras you can come up with to add to the pasta to keep it different every night. Glad those days are behind me.

But now I make this version just because I love it. […]

Mediterranean Orzo Salad

This is by far my favourite salad of all time.

Mediterranean Orzo Salad Adapted from Joni Marie Newman’s The Best Veggie Burgers on the Planet.

454g (1 lb) orzo pasta, cooked in salted water as per the package and drained 1/4 cup olive oil, divided 392g (14 oz) extra-firm tofu, diced 12 sun-dried tomatoes, soaked […]

Vegan Pancakes

This is a follow up to the Gluten-Free & Vegan Pancakes I posted the other day. Dylan’s friends were over and I made them the GF-Vegan pancakes but today I wanted to try regular vegan pancakes. Found these on-line and they are wonderful. You absolutely can not tell the difference between these and regular egg […]

Ravioli Without Borders

This was a fun recipe and really could be very quick and easy. The idea is to use wonton wrappers instead of pasta, this makes it very easy to put together. I wanted to make the home-made Vegan pasta but decided to try this as I have also read this same idea in Jamie Oliver’s […]

Wild Mushroom Pizza with Garlic and Thyme

Something very strange is happening to me. I am really enjoying these fast and easy to prepare recipes. This from the person who loved to spend the entire night in the kitchen cutting, dicing, preparing and cooking. A one page recipe, too easy, no challenge! Not any more. These fast and simple recipes are great. […]
