Tomorrow’s Menu

Wow Two posts in one day. I really am getting back on track.

So here is what I have planned so far for tomorrow’s  Saturday’s Open House Dinner (Middle Eastern Theme). First let me say I have NEVER cooked Middle Eastern before, actually except for Pot Luck dinners where Shirin or Saeed has brought something , I have never eaten Middle Eastern until today. Saeed told me about some Persian grocery stores in Toronto and I ran out there today and after shopping I grabbed some lunch…Yummmm. So simple but filling. I made Rice with Lentils the other day just to test it out. Turned out pretty good except the book said to cook (steam) the rice over medium heat and everything smells like I burned something, smoky smell. Well I have been told now, use low heat not medium, so much for cookbooks. Always best to go to people who cook Persian rather then someone who writes about it. So I will try again tonight over low heat.

Tomorrow’s Menu (so far, everything is subject to change).

Mast-o-Khiar (Yogurt with Cucumbers) and Persian bread for dipping
Ab-Goosht-e Boz Bash (Persian Soup)
Adas Pollo (Rice with Lentils, Raisins and Almonds)
Plain Rice with Saffron
Borani-ye Esfenaj (Yogurt with Spinach)
Dolmeh Kalam (Stuffed Cabbage Leaves)
Koofteh Berenji (Rice Meatballs)
North African Shrimp (Moroccan)
Moroccan Vegetable Tagine

I will have some children friendly food as well, in case they are like Dylan and not adventurous. Maybe spaghetti with sauce and cheeses for sprinkling.

Not sure how many are coming yet, looks like about 20 but you just never know. Looking forward to it though.

Of course we might end up ordering pizza if these dishes don’t turn out. Number one rule never make something for the first time for a dinner party .. sorry I am breaking that rule 6 times tomorrow.  Wish me luck.

I am thinking Indian cuisine for next month….

  • I have the utmost faith in your abilities to handle 6 new dishes. No worries. What you should be afraid of is me trying to come up with a Middle-Eastern dessert!
